Dryer Fabric Review After a Paper Machine Speed Increase

When a paper machine increases its operating speed, a previous dryer-fabric order may still be a useful reference, but it is not a complete specification for the new operating window. A buyer can make the review more productive by showing what changed and which conditions remain stable. No single speed value, on its own, determines a suitable fabric construction.

Document the former and intended operating windows

State the machine and exact dryer position, the speed range used with the current fabric, the intended speed range, paper grade and basis-weight range. Record whether the change is a short trial or the expected regular operating condition. If a speed target has not yet been confirmed by the mill, describe it as a target rather than a measured result.

Separate fabric observations from machine-side changes

Note the current fabric's tracking, edge condition, contamination, seam condition where relevant, and any sheet marks or runnability observations. Also list changes to dryer configuration, guides, rolls, cleaning arrangements or operating practice that accompany the speed increase. These records support a technical discussion; an observed symptom alone does not establish its cause or prove that a new fabric will resolve it.

Recheck order and installation constraints

Verify the finished width and length, joining or endless requirement, threading route, edge requirements and any existing fabric label or sample. If air permeability or another test value is quoted, retain the measurement method and unit so a proposed value can be compared on the same basis. A construction or tolerance decision needs review against the actual machine and its operating conditions.
